Berkley, MI – February 8, 2022  – Just when people needed a little kindness, the Berkley American Legion Post 374 stepped up to support both local veterans and the community at large.

Over the holiday season, the Berkley American Legion Post 374 members and friends were able to provide food baskets which included turkey, ham, fresh fruit, and a $50.00 Meijer gift card to 35 veteran families in need. With special thanks to Berkley Area Schools PTA/PTSA, and Berkley Public Safety for their generous donations, the Berkley American Legion Post 374 was able to create and distribute more baskets than ever before.

With so many donations given, several boxes of leftover nonperishable items were donated to the Berkley Cares Food Pantry, the community’s newest food pantry created by Berkley residents located right in the heart of the 12 Mile district in Downtown Berkley.

Additionally, the Sons of the American Legion (SAL) made several monetary donations to organizations that help the greater good. Some highlights of those donations include the purchase of a new freezer for Berkley Cares Food Pantry (in partnership with Auxiliary), providing the space and cooked dinner for Berkley Department of Public Safety’s spaghetti dinner fundraiser for RB Strong, and currently running a 50/50 fundraiser to benefit the Kentucky American Legion Tornado Relief Fund, which will benefit the communities decimated by the tornados in late 2021.

They say kindness goes a long way, and the Berkley American Legion Post 374 certainly sprinkles Berkley and the surrounding communities with much kindness.
