Meet Your Mayor

Mayor Marilyn Stephan mstephan@berkleymich.net

Marilyn Stephan has lived in Berkley since 1957 with her husband George, who has lived in Berkley since 1940. Marilyn was elected Councilmember in November 1999, Mayor in November 2005 and most recently re-elected Mayor in November 2007.

A graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota, Marilyn taught at Anderson Middle School, Norup Middle School and Berkley High School. Prior to her retirement in 1995, she served as President of the Berkley Education Association for ten years. The Stephans are members of Cana Lutheran Church.  Marilyn is also a member of the Michigan Education Association-Retired and member of the Friends of the Berkley Public Library.

As Mayor, Marilyn serves as the chair of all council meetings and is the ceremonial head of government for the city.
