Meet Your Councilmembers

Michael Matthews-Pennanen, Councilmember

Michael Matthews-Pennanen was elected to City Council in November of 2003 and re-elected in November 2007.  Mike and his wife Catherine moved into Berkley in 1986 and are now living in their second Berkley home.  Two of their 3 children are current students in the Berkley school district and their eldest child is a graduate of Berkley High School.

Mike is a graduate of Michigan State University and the University of Detroit School of Law. He works for the Royal Oak Fire Department and also runs a diversified small development Company.

Daniel Benton , Councilmember
Daniel Benton served as a member of City Council from 1995 to 1997 and was elected to his current four-year term in November 1999 and was elected Mayor Pro Tem in November 2005.   Dan was re-elected to City Council in November 2007.  Dan and his wife Carol have been in Berkley since 1979 where they raised their three sons who are graduates of Berkley High School. Dan attended undergraduate and graduate school at the University of Michigan and is a dentist in private practice.

Phil O'Dwyer, Councilmember
Phil O'Dwyer was elected to City Council in November 2005. Phil and his wife Jeanne have resided in Berkley since 1980 where they raised their son Tim. Phil holds a Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Wayne State University. Phil is Clinical Director and President of Brookfield Clinics and is a Professor in the Graduate School of Counseling at Oakland University.

Dan Terbrack, Councilmember

 

Dan Terbrack is a third generation Berkley resident, elected to the City Council in 2007.  Dan graduated from Central Michigan University in 2003, with his degree in secondary education, and is now working towards his Master’s Degree in educational administration.  He is currently teaching at Berkley High School in the social studies department.

Dan has been an active member in the following organizations:

  • Berkley Parks and Recreation Advisory Board
  • Youth hockey coach
  • High School baseball coach
  • Berkley Dad’s Club alumni
 
Dale GoodCourage, Mayor Pro-Tem

Dale GoodCourage was elected to City Council in November of 2005.  Dale has been a resident of Berkley for 44 years.  He and his wife Mary Pat have been married to 32 years and are the parents of two boys, one daughter, with the wonderful addition of a daughter-in-law, a son-in law, and a grandson.  Dale served in the United States Army in the Military Police.  He is a graduate of the University of Detroit Mercy and works in sales/engineering.

Eileen Steadman, Councilmember

Eileen Steadman has been a Berkley resident since 1976. She is the mother of four daughters, who are all graduates of Berkley High School. Eileen received her Bachelor's degree from Western Michigan University and her Master's degree from Oakland University. She is a Special Education teacher in Royal Oak and runs a parent-toddler program for children age birth to three with mild to moderate delays. Eileen was first elected to City Council in 1997 and was elected to her second four year term in 2001.  In November 2005 Eileen was appointed to fill a vacancy on the City Council.  In the November 2007 election Eileen was re-elected to a four-year term on the City Council.
