Gas Line Project unrelated to Coolidge Lane Reduction

The City has received several inquiries regarding the Consumers Energy project along Coolidge Highway, and whether the work is connected with plans to reduce the lanes on Coolidge between 11 Mile and 12 Mile Road. The two projects are not connected.

Since last November, Consumers Energy has been updating a natural gas pipeline along Coolidge Highway south of 12 Mile Road. During the course of the work, it was determined that an existing gas main along Beverly also needed to be replaced.

Consumers Energy plans to activate the new gas line along Beverly around January 17th.  Until then, lane closures on northbound Coolidge remain in effect. Work is wrapping up with a few items to be addressed next week, weather permitting. Full restoration of the streetscape along Coolidge and Beverly will be completed in the spring.

The Coolidge lane reduction project is expected to begin in the spring.  Updates will be posted on the city’s website and all social media accounts.
