Defer Your Taxes

You can delay payment of your summer 2015 tax bill without penalty or interest until February 16, 2016 if your total household income in 2014 did not exceed $40,000 and you meet one of the following criteria:

  • Senior citizens (62 years of age or older), including the unmarried surviving spouse of a person who was 62 years of age or older at the time of death
  • Paraplegic or Quadriplegic
  • Eligible Serviceperson, Eligible Veteran, Eligible Widow or Widower
  • Blind Person
  • Totally and Permanently Disabled

Proof of total prior year household income must be shown with a copy of your signed MI 1040CR (Homestead Property Tax Credit Claim). Applications for the deferment must be filed at the Treasurer's Office on or before September 15th of each year.

Housebound seniors may call the Treasurer’s Office at 248-658-3310 and schedule an appointment for someone to come to their house to assist them with their deferment.
