We are so excited to be reopening to the public but our FIRST priority is the health and safety of you & our staff.
Below are our COVID-19 Frequently Asked Questions for when you come back to visit us at the Community Center.
Community Center COVID-19 Frequently Asked Questions:
What should I expect/prepare for when going back to the Community Center?
- The safety of our Parks & Recreation staff and residents is our top priority.
- We have taken a number of steps to protect the health and well-being of our staff and community which includes enhanced sanitization policies and procedures, social distancing measures, reducing physical touchpoints, and more. We have provided personal protective equipment (PPE) to our team members for staff to wear, and gloves to use for extensive cleaning.
- Due to our enhanced cleaning and sanitation policies, we ask that our patrons;
- Show up only five minutes before class.
- Maintain social distancing to the best of your ability while interacting in the Community Center.
- Masks are not required but encouraged.
What are the Community Center's plans for reopening?
- We have opened back to our full capacity of indoor & outdoor classes and programs.
What are the expected resident safety requirements in order to participate in a program?
- Due to our enhanced cleaning and sanitation policies, we ask that our patrons;
- Show up only five minutes before class.
- Maintain social distancing to the best of your ability while interacting in the Community Center.
- Masks are not required but encouraged.
What is the Community Center's mask policy?
- Masks are not required for both the public and staff but are strongly encouraged.
- It is important to note that not everyone, including staff members, will be comfortable with not wearing a mask. It is everyone's personal choice and each of you has their own personal timeline of when you will be ready. Please be patient and kind with one another during this transition.
Do I have to wear a mask while I am participating in the activity or program?
- Masks are not required for both the public and staff but are strongly encouraged.
- However, we have specifically chosen activities where a face covering would NOT interfere with the activity if you choose to wear one.
- It is important to note that not everyone, including staff members, will be comfortable with not wearing a mask. It is everyone's personal choice and each of you has their own personal timeline of when you will be ready. Please be patient and kind with one another during this transition.
What if I forget my mask?
- We will have disposable masks available if a resident forgets their mask. We’d be happy to provide one for you!

Wear your Mask Correctly
- Wash your hands before putting it on.
- Put it over your nose and mouth and secure it under your chin.
- Try to fit it snugly against the sides of your face.
- Make sure you can breathe easily.
What are you doing to keep staff and residents safe?
- The safety of our Parks & Recreation staff and residents is our top priority. We have taken a number of steps to protect the health and well-being of our staff and community including the following:
- Staff will continue frequent cleaning procedures, especially for high-touch surface areas such as service counters.
- Signs encouraging social distancing and best practices will be prominently posted throughout the buildings and on the entrance doors.
- Plastic shields or "Sneeze Guards" will remain over the counters to limit person-to-person contact with staff and residents.
- Hand sanitizer stations will be maintained at all entrances.
What type of disinfectant are you using to clean the Community Center?
- Our Parks & Recreation will be conducting increased, thorough cleanings throughout all areas of the Community Center using disinfectants listed on the EPA List Effective Against COVID-19.
- The Community Center will also be disinfected weekly from Public Safety or a contract company such as Enviroscope.
Will hand sanitizer and masks be available?
- Yes. We have hand sanitizer stations that will be maintained at the entrance and disposable masks will be available if a resident forgets their mask.
What can Berkley residents do to stay safe?
- Berkley residents can do their part to help keep our Community Center safe and healthy for everyone by doing the following:
- The CDC recommends you wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water before using equipment or working out.
- Maintain physical distance between other patrons and the Parks & Recreation staff.
